(AP) An artist’s rendering of the white fiber board in which a woman died in 2015 was based on a false and defamatory statement by a white man who had made it for a documentary on the technology.
The artist, who filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court, said in a statement Thursday that she was unaware that the white piece was used in the documentary until she viewed the film “In the Shadow of the Moon.”
The statement said the film was based in part on “an article in a popular Los Angeles magazine” called “In The Shadow of The Moon” that portrayed her in a negative light.
It said the “inaccurate portrayal” was the result of “fraudulent misrepresentations.”
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles-based Filmmaker’s Guild of America said it had no comment on the lawsuit.
